Annual Celebration
Future dates to be announced.

The Bay Area Science Festival is a 10-day, Bay Area wide celebration of the unique science and technology of the region. Scientists from our local universities, companies, and museums will share their story, passion, and science to packed houses throughout the Bay Area. Programs will feature hundreds of hands-on-activities, provocative conversations, electrifying performances, and tours of cutting-edge facilities. Science is heading out of the lab and into our community to be accessible for all.

To achieve a true region-wide celebration, the Bay Area Science Festival will be feature over 100 events at multiple venues across the area. Most events will be held in public spaces (parks, theaters, cafes, even farmer's markets!) with a majority being free. The main attraction will be three Science Carnivals, one each in San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose. With each carnival having expected attendance of 15,000, the Bay Area Science Festival is geared to have well over 50,000 total attendees.

Festival Highlights:
  • Bay Area Science Carnivals - Three large-scale, family friendly events featuring hands-on- activities, demonstrations, and workshops featuring the best of science by the bay. One carnival each will be located in San Francisco, the East Bay, and the South Bay.
  • Open Labs - Open houses at multiple professional and academic laboratories. Most labs will be paired with local high schoolers for special behind the scenes tours.
  • Nexus Dialogues - A series of dialogues between a scientist and compelling local figure on provocative issues, with an emphasis on topics of local interest.
  • ArtWalk: Science - Self-guided tours of local art galleries featuring science inspired art. Art galleries throughout the Bay Area will be participating.
