Annual Celebration
Future dates to be announced.
Science in the Sun: a free festival to have fun learning science from scientists!
We’re celebrating science at the first ever St. Petersburg Science Festival in conjunction with MarineQuest, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute’s annual marine discovery day, April 30, 2011 at the Bayboro Waterfront of the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.
Why a science festival?
Science is important and essential for modern society. Every day each one of us benefits from scientific knowledge in the food we eat, the air we breathe and the water we drink. Science and technology power our world, protect us from natural disasters, improve our health and entertain us.
Science in St. Petersburg will be the star, front and center, of a day-full of two-dozen hands-on activities for children and adults with emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning.
Our Science in the Sun program will include a panel discussion about the Gulf Oil Spill, 10-minute mini-lectures, fun science games and experiments, a labyrinth about water, demonstrations, self-guided exploration, exhibits, tours of science labs and research vessels and a Japanese haiku poetry slam.
The action starts at 10am Saturday, April 30 with a special, surprise KICK-off. Be there, or be square!
