Annual Celebration
Future dates to be announced.
The Great Insect Fair is an annual event hosted by Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences Department of Entomology. The theme of this year's fair is "Bugs Are Green" and focuses on the ways that bugs help to recycle. The event aims to bring awareness to different insect issues and get people interested in the small creatures all around us. There are plenty of activities for kids, including a "Build-A-Bug" contest, insect-themed arts and crafts, and face painting and games. There's also plenty to do for adults, including an expert that will answer all your pressing pest questions.
Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this fair are the tasting opportunities. Not only can you sample some of the more traditional insect products (i.e. honey), but there is an entire insect deli with exotic offerings available to adventurous visitors. Try chocolate-coated crickets known as "chocolate chirpies" or maybe a meal worm bruschetta is more your style. Whatever your taste, this free fair offers something for everyone.
