Upcoming Science Festival Alliance Meetings Thank you to those that joined us at our events at the 2011 ASTC Conference in Baltimore and San Francisco's Bay Area Science Festival. These meetings provided the chance for professionals interested in science festivals to meet in person. Below is a list of meetings like these that the Science Festival Alliance has in the works for early 2012. Please contact us directly if you'd like to take part in any of these!
Science Festivals and Beyond A one-day, invitation only meeting to encourage networking among science outreach organizers, and the development of science festivals throughout Egypt. Where: American University in Cairo, EgyptWhen: January 14, 2012 Who: Science outreach professionals from the US and Egypt. The workshop is supported by the US National Science Foundation through an award to the Science Festival Alliance.
2012 AAAS Annual Meeting The Science Festival Alliance will be present at the 2012 AAAS Annual Meeting in Vancouver, BC, this February. Stay tuned for more details about official conference sessions and an informal networking event for science festival professionals.
2012 American Chemical Society Annual Meeting This March the spring meeting of the American Chemisty Society will be held in San Diego just in time for the San Diego Festival of Science & Engineering. Spend a day at the festival with the Science Festival Alliance, and then join sessions and networking events during the ACS meeting.
2012 Spring Science Festivals From March to May of 2012 the US will see more science festival activity than ever before. If you have a professional interest in science festivals, please contact the Science Festival Alliance to discuss making a visit to one of the many celebrations throughout the country. The International Public Science Events Conference Planning is just getting underway for the next IPSEC meeting. We are currently considering dates in the fall of 2012, and will be sure to make the announcement far and wide once some basic details are decided. The 2011 International Public Science Events Conference In February of 2011 the first ever International Public Science Events Conference (IPSEC) convened for two days in Washington DC. From multi-million dollar citywide festivals, to intimate cafe meetings at the corner pub, new public science events are popping up across the globe. This meeting brought together professionals from around the world to trade ideas and inspiration, forge new collaborations, and consider what is next for this rapidly growing field. And it was all timed to lead into the annual meeting of the world’s largest general scientific society: the AAAS. What these numbers don’t capture is the remarkable energy at this meeting. It was easy to feel the enthusiasm that attendees had for the public outreach that they are involved in, and it was clear that this meeting was a unique and valuable gathering of new kind of professional community.
