What are the odds? With an inaugural science festival planned for the first week of May, the chances are good that tens of thousands will no longer do a double take when they hear Las Vegas referred to as a science city.
Southern Nevada is unique, and the Las Vegas Science Festival offerings reflect this with three core themes:
The week-long festival, running from May 1 – 7, 2011, features dozens of public events, many in-school K-12 and university programs, and a grand finale Expo Day. Among the events planned are a series of “Great Debates,” which will present guest speakers who represent divergent viewpoints on thought-provoking current topics. The festival is presented by the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, and is using the occasion to rally the many stakeholders throughout the region, with a list of participating organizations that reads like a who’s who of Nevada science and technology. As Festival Co-Director John Good says, “It is easy to think that you know Las Vegas just from an overnight on the strip, but we’re really proud of the science and technology going on in this region, and with our line up of participating organizations I think even the local community is going to be surprised by just how much is happening here.” For more information and to contact the festival organizers, visit the Las Vegas Science Festival website.
