Children pulled their parents from booth to booth at the city's third annual EarthFest in Sandy Bottom Nature Park, oohing and aahing at everything from a model NASA launch abort system to shells smoothed by ocean waves.
The event drew families with elementary age students curious to learn more about the Earth and their environment. Self-described "country girl" Vickie Reed brought her grandchildren. Brayden, 5, and Caleigh, 2. "I just wanted to have a good outing with them and teach them a little about the earth," Reed said. "They're having a ball." Caleigh is one of dozens of kids who grabbed an empty milk carton (she chose strawberry) and with the help of a volunteer, cut out a "door" on two sides to fill with birdseed before pulling the twine hanger over her head to wear the feeder as a necklace. |
