Science Events Summit Cancelled. Join These Meetings

Science Events Summit The 2020 Science Events Summit is cancelled. As much as it hurts to cancel, it is not practical to postpone and it doesn't seem appropriate to try to replace what was originally planned for Atlanta this June with a frenzy of online activity. But while we will not be "virtualizing" the 2020 Summit, there are still so many reasons to get together. Wouldn't you like to touch base with your live event friends right now? Well, below are a few upcoming meetings that give you the chance. We're likely to add a few more sessions to this list. Check back here for posted updates, follow @ScienceFests, or sign up for the old-school newsletter at the bottom of the sciencefestivals.org homepage. ...

Community Listening

Now is the time to listen. It should be the basis of your work, but it seems harder to do than ever right now. We have arranged an unprecedented (and therefore experimental) opportunity for you to listen to voices you may not be hearing right now. Listen to conversations with students, parents/guardians, and teachers about how communities are faring on the other side of the digital divide, and start considering how you might help your organization get better at community listening.

Please register now for upcoming sessions. You are encouraged to attend as many sessions as you can, and will need to register for each separately.

Tuesday, May 26, 1:00 - 2:15, Eastern: Student Conversation Wednesday, May 27, 1:00 - 2:15, Eastern: Parent Conversation Friday, May 29, 1:00 - 2:15, Eastern: Teacher Conversation Monday, June 1, 1:30 - 2:45, Eastern: Reflect on what we've learned so far, and consider how to initiate your own community listening.

NEW: Wednesday, June 3, 1:00 - 2:15, Eastern: Social Emotional Learning Practitioners Conversation

Science Events Net-Working Session

This Monday we’ll consider some of the questions coming up fast for us:

- What is the potential of off-line engagement in the era of social distancing? - How do we prepare for events scheduled for the next six months? - How should events adjust business models and sponsor relationships?

You may notice we have questions for this session, but promise no answers. Join this session if you’re ready to dig in and get to work on one of these urgent issues over the next few months.

Postponed. (Originally scheduled for Sunday, May 31, 6:00pm).

Caveat, the Versus team, and Science Events Summit organizers agree that a fun and distracting show is not the best way to serve our community right now. Caveat has postponed all shows previously scheduled for May 31. Check back here or on Caveat's site for updates.

Versus: Black Holes vs. Stars

Remember when Caveat was a happening underground club that brought people together for Intelligent Nightlife seven days a week? Well, it still is. In just a couple months, the courageous crew has righted their ship and set sail upon the virtual seas.If you’re thinking about online live events, this is the perfect opportunity to invite your team to tune in for a shared experience you can talk over afterward. Plus, you've always wondered what would happen if Wrestlemania met debate club.Caveat: Versus 6:00pm Eastern $5 minimum, $10 suggested Followed by special Science Events Summit talk-back session

... What was this Summit thing that was cancelled? Plans for the 2020 Science Events Summit have been in the works for over a year. Five grant-funded projects were planning to use the 2020 Summit as a culminating moment, with meetings, workshops, and working groups. Similarly, plans for an involved conference program were already underway, with several of the larger sessions sketched out. Fantastic venues were booked for May 31 - June 2 in Atlanta. Registrations were on track and enthusiasm was starting to build when planning was suspended in March. We are so thankful to those that had already started to bring the Summit together, and we're looking forward to reigniting those plans as soon as it is safe to do so.
